You know how these know-it-alls keep telling you that you have to be all, like, scientific and stuff when you want to add turbocharging to your engine? Forget that noise! When you're on a 24 Hours Of LeMons -mandated $500 budget and you've already spent $17.99 on the most hideous wrecked Miata imaginable, you can't go throwing away money on complicated-ass fuel-delivery crapola. No, you do what Eyesore Racing did with the Ghettocharged FrankenMiata! Make the jump to read about yet another reason that the 2008 Arse Freeze-A-Palooza race will be the best yet. galleryPost('EyesoreGhettocharger', 6, 'Eyesore Racing Prepares For 24 Hours Of LeMons Thunderhill'); You remember the 24 Hours Of LeMons SF 2008 People's Choice-winning Eyesore Pimpin CRX , of course. The Eyesore Racing CRX showed us that pimpin' really ain't easy, and neither is finishing the race with a little Honda that's had the crap beat out of it while finishing in the Top Ten in three...

Even though Sacramento's Evil Genius Racing might be best known around these parts for its role in the Black Metal V8olvo LeMons car , owner John "Evil Genius" Pagel actually spends most of his time building nice race cars. You know, the kind that cost more than 500 bucks, go fast, and tend to hold together for long periods without any need for duct-tape/beercan intervention. In this case, Evil Genius has assembled three Miatas to take on NASA's 25 Hours Of Thunderhill race next month. I've seen and heard these cars in person, and I plan to be at the track to watch them run on December 6th. Make the jump for more photos and info. galleryPost('EvilGenius25HrMazdas', 6, 'Evil Genius Mazdas Prepare For 25 Hour Race'); Here's what John has to say about his past experiences and future plans in NASA endurance racing: I’ve been competing in the NASA 25 hr race since its inception as a 12 hr back in 1995.. Usually with a first generation RX7.. last year...

The guys on the Bum Steers And The MooPoo Crew managed to convince Chief Perpetrator Jay Lamm that their allegedly sub-$500 Miata was fully legit. And, hey, Jay should know- he races a Miata himself. Thing is, the mob is not always rational, and the voice of the mob howled "CHEATER!" in this case. The Bum Steers were very fast, perhaps bordering on aggressive (though that's subject to a lot of interpretation), but looks like they earned the Curse almost entirely thanks to skepticism about their budget. Meanwhile, the SCHWING Team Corolla FX16 is still in the lead, with the Bikini Racer Camaro in second and the Latch Key kids moving into third place.

There’s leaks and then there’s leaks . This is the latter kind. Check out the photo gallery of 2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata press shots below — you can see it from every different angle, inside and out. Apparent are the new, less appliance-like headlights, revised taillights and unmodified interior. No other details are available, but expect the same 166 HP 2.0-liter engine and uncorrupted driving experience. galleryPost('2010mx5km', 6, '2010 Mazda MX-5'); [via KM77 ]

Dirty, dingy and scraped up, sure. But trash? Absolutely not!

The folks over at Spanish site KM77 have gotten ahold of the first official photo of the facelifted 2010 Mazda MX-5 . Confirming what we saw with the EU patent images , this is truly just a face lift. The Mazda Kazamai-esque nose is fully on display along with a few other obvious visual tweaks. galleryPost('10mx5kn', 4, 'MX5ing it up'); [Photo: KM77 ]

Though recently leaked patent renderings for the 2010 Mazda MX-5 reveal a fairly conservative refresh, designers and engineers are working on a radical change for the next all-new version of the Miata. In an interview with Autocar , Lauren Van den Acker, design boss for Mazda, comes right out and says the next all new Miata is going to make waves. Apparently the company is in a hot debate at the moment over the direction of the iconic roadster, but one thing is certain: Mazda intends to push the envelope. The fourth generation MX-5 is expected to show its face in around 2012, but what will that face look like? Van den Acker hints the design is actually moving towards an application of the Nagare design language as seen on the Mazda Kazamai concept they've been showing lately. As one of the worlds few remaining compact roadsters, legions of Miataphiles will be eager to see just how the sweeping lines and flowing curves of Nagare will attach to the shape of their little corner carver...

Once again it's time to see how the teams fared at what race organizers call "The Ultimate Test Of Not-So-Bright Man And Shockingly Crappy Machine." Because this was the 24 Hours Of LeMons' first venture into the Northeast, there weren't as many cars as we've seen at previous events; that means we can show you all the finishers! When you're done here, be sure to check out the top finishers at LeMons SF October '07 , LeMons Arse-Freeze-A-Pa-Looza December '07 , LeMons SF May '08 , and LeMons South July '08 . Many thanks to UDMan , Drumhurrin , and TheEastBayKid for the photos! #1: Endurance Karting, Mazda Miata #2: Kielbasa Kids, Honda Civic #3: Scuderia Limoni, Alfa Romeo Milano #4: Keystone Cops, Volvo 244 #5: Scuderia Testa di Spillo, Alfa Romeo Milano #6: Team Pro-Crass-Duh-Nation, Alfa Romeo Milano #7: Schumacher Taxi Serice, Toyota Corolla FX16 #8: Detonators, Volkswagen Golf #9: Schumacher Taxi Service, Audi 90 #10: Team Rob, His Two Loser...

I recall seeing a lot of Mazda ads at the Monterey Historics , thumping their chests about their racing prowess… but not a single mention of the 24 Hours of LeMons anywhere , in spite of the fact that Mazdas have now won three of the last four events ( Protege , RX-7 ) and always contend. If Mazda's marketers had half the smarts of their engineers, they'd run a global advertising campaign centered on cars like the Endurance Karting Miata, which hung on for the win in New England today. Maybe a slogan such as "Even when it's an old beater, it will still be fast" could be a big hit, and it beats "Zoom-Zoom" by a long shot. In other big news, three of the top six cars today were Alfa Romeo Milanos! Make the jump for the complete final standings, courtesy of UDMan (and thanks to Drumhurrin for the photo above: 1 – 90 – Endurance Karting Miata 2 – 29 – Kielbasa Kids Honda Civic 3 – 60 – Scuderia Limoni Alfa Romeo Milano 4 – 0 – Keystone Kops Volvo 244 5 – 06 ...

Someone at the Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market, the EU agency responsible for registering trademarks, screwed up and let lose a series of photos of the facelifted replacement for the current generation Mazda MX-5 . These renderings clearly show a few important design tweaks for the 2010 Mazda MX-5. Similar to the Mazda Kazamai , the new front bumper includes more angular details, a strong contrast to those on the smooth and round current generation. galleryPost('10mazdamx5eu', 5, 'Never Trust The Patent Office'); Though the grille includes a more RX-8-esque rotary shape, this design seems to be more of an indicator of what we can expect from the 2010 Mazda3 . Actually, it's not that dissimilar from the Mazda3 concept that turned out to be a Photoshop, indicating that Mazda is following closely the design language they established. [ AutoWeek.nl ]

Autoblog reported this weekend Mazda's put the kibosh on rumors of a Mazdaspeed version of the MX-5 . Speculation was rampant the turbo 2.3-liter Mazdaspeed3 engine would end up under the hood of the MX-5, but apparently the fuel pump design makes the swap from transverse to longitudinal mounting prohibitively expensive. So what's a forced-induction fan with an MX-5 to do? How about give the aftermarket a few months and work on paying down those credit card balances. Mazdaspeed can supply a full array of suspension and engine upgrades, while Cosworth has their supercharger — said to provide 210 HP to the rear wheels — on the test bench as we type. Additionally, Flyin' Miata claims they'll have a centrifugal blower ready for action soon, hopefully by the holidays. [Mazda via Autoblog ]

newVideoPlayer("/V12_MiataMX5.flv", 494, 400,""); If you think a V8 in a Miata is an ambitious swap, just check out this guy's project. Yes, that's a 5.3-liter Jaguar V12, and if that wasn't enough, its fuel-injection system has been replaced with a project-car hell-worthy six-carburetor intake! Just listen to that baby purr. galleryPost('v12miata', 3, 'Needs More Power'); OK, well, you would be able to listen to it purr if it actually stayed running. But isn't that why we take on projects like this, just to suffer the pain of anticipation? We can't wait 'till he gets it out on the street. Sure it may not be as powerful or reliable as a well-built Ford V8, but who cares? It's a V12! [ Miata.net via VWvortex ]

As Kim Taylor was running down the hill beside her driveway, chasing after her red Mazda Miata, she couldn't help but be confused. She was sure she had put the parking brake on. And yet there was the little convertible, on its way to her neighbors' pool for a 40 MPH splashdown. We have a feeling this was just one of those days.( Thanks Chris ) [ York Daily Record via 11Alive ]

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Now, at least one Solstice forum found out about this week's Showroom Showdown , but I doubt that alone explains the fact that the Solstice won by a 4 to 1 margin. Ouch! Personally, I think the Solstice looks way better, but I'd still take the Miata...

We tend to think about rotaries when we think about Mazda engines, but it would really be stretching the definition of "workhorse" to include Mazda's Wankel in this series (perhaps we will do a Supercool Screamin' Engine of the Day series at some point, just so we can rant on about RX-3s, Cosmos, etc.). However, Mazda has made some strong and reliable piston engines as well (just to show they're not philosophically opposed to reciprocating mass), and today we honor one such engine: the Mazda B series. They started making Bs in 1987, they're still making them today, and they've powered a staggeringly long list of makes and models, from Miatas to Escorts to Sephias. [Wikipedia]
