newVideoPlayer("/Stolen-Mazda3.flv", 494, 371,""); Let's say you're MacGyver, you've turned to a life of crime and need to steal a car. All you have is a shoelace, some tin cans and a nail. Of course you punch a hole in each can, string them together and hook them to the bumper of a car then lie in wait to pounce when the driver gets out to see what's making all that racket as they pull away. As perfect as this plan may be, we suspect it's probably staged since the otherwise clever plan would be thwarted when the would-be victim approaches from behind and sees cans hooked to the car. Plus the 'get in, start up, drive, stop and get out' sequence happens too fast to believe it wasn't staged. But who are we, CSI? Judge for yourselves. [ youtube ]

While the 2010 Mazda3 sedan is all smiles, we're reserving our grins for the Mazda3 hatchback. This is why we're so pleased Mazda's press people provided us with what has to be the most beautiful set of spy photos we've ever seen. Rather than leaving the job of snapping photos of the new Mazda3 con camo to the quick shutters of KGP, the press office hired someone to make an entire set of glamour shots of the covered hatch crossing Iceland. The new Mazda3 looks sporty in person and, from what we can see, the hatch looks just as sporty. galleryPost('2010mazd3ahatch', 6, 'Sexy In Black'); The new hatch, like the sedan, should get either the 2.0-liter four cylinder engine with 148 HP and 135 lb-ft of torque or a new 2.5-liter four pumping out a sweet 167 HP and 168 lb-ft of torque. Do you want transmission choices? Mazda will let you have a five-speed automanual, five-speed manual or glorious six-speed gearbox. Unfortunately, you're still likely to be limited...

Mazda's pint-sized, entry-level 2010 Mazda3 Sedan was just revealed at the 2008 LA Auto Show and if nothing else, it certainly is expressive. The new sheetmetal is complemented by more power, a new six speed manual transmission and a rather nice interior for the segment, heck for any segment. The new Mazda3 stands to shake up the compact car segment currently occupied by such excitement-machines like the Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, and Ford Focus — success is virtually guaranteed. galleryPost('mazda3la08', 6, '2010 Mazda3 Unveiled Live In LA'); galleryPost('09mazda3sedanpress', 6, '2010 Mazda3 Sedan'); galleryPost('09mazdadetails', 6, 'Details of the 2009 Mazda3 Sedan'); galleryPost('09mazda3techpress', 6, 'Techy Bits On the Mazda3 Sedan'); With the new Mazda3, Mazda is building on a story of success from the original Mazda3 which is the car's highest selling product in the lineup. If that tradition continues...

They've gone and done it, the new 2010 Mazda3 Sedan has debuted ahead of its formal unveil at the LA Auto Show and it looks like Mazda has gone and finally used a pinch of that Nagare design language. Those bellyachers complaining the US never gets good-looking compact cars will no longer have anything to complain about as the new Mazda3 is a looker by any standard. It also has the goods to back those looks with a 2.0 liter four cylinder pumped up to 167 HP and 168 lb-ft of torque which is mated to either a five-speed or six-speed manual transmission as well as a five-speed selectable automatic transmission. Can you hear us panting over here? There are complete details below as well as loving, slow-mo video of the car in motion. galleryPost('09mazda3sedanpress', 6, '2010 Mazda3 Sedan'); galleryPost('09mazdadetails', 6, 'Details of the 2009 Mazda3 Sedan'); galleryPost('09mazda3techpress', 6, 'Techy Bits On the Mazda3 Sedan'); newVideoPlayer...

You know how these know-it-alls keep telling you that you have to be all, like, scientific and stuff when you want to add turbocharging to your engine? Forget that noise! When you're on a 24 Hours Of LeMons -mandated $500 budget and you've already spent $17.99 on the most hideous wrecked Miata imaginable, you can't go throwing away money on complicated-ass fuel-delivery crapola. No, you do what Eyesore Racing did with the Ghettocharged FrankenMiata! Make the jump to read about yet another reason that the 2008 Arse Freeze-A-Palooza race will be the best yet. galleryPost('EyesoreGhettocharger', 6, 'Eyesore Racing Prepares For 24 Hours Of LeMons Thunderhill'); You remember the 24 Hours Of LeMons SF 2008 People's Choice-winning Eyesore Pimpin CRX , of course. The Eyesore Racing CRX showed us that pimpin' really ain't easy, and neither is finishing the race with a little Honda that's had the crap beat out of it while finishing in the Top Ten in three...

In an effort to boost capital while simultaneously distracting auto journalists by waving a bright, shiny and colorful new toy around, Ford today authorized Mazda to buy back approximately 20% ( around 96,802,000 shares ) of the 33.4% stake the Dearborn-based automaker holds in the Japanese car manufacturer. The transaction, to be made in off-hours trading at today's closing price of ¥184 ($1.91) per share, despite reducing the share to 13.4%, will apparently not change Ford's control of Mazda. It will net Ford approximately $185 million. And yes, that's not very much. Full press release after the jump. Ford to Change Ownership Stake in Mazda - The two companies will continue their strategic relationship - HIROSHIMA, November 18, 2008—Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) has announced today that Mazda and several of its strategic business partners will acquire a part of Ford Motor Company’s (Ford) shares in Mazda through market trading. As a result, the ratio of Ford’s ownership...

Even though Sacramento's Evil Genius Racing might be best known around these parts for its role in the Black Metal V8olvo LeMons car , owner John "Evil Genius" Pagel actually spends most of his time building nice race cars. You know, the kind that cost more than 500 bucks, go fast, and tend to hold together for long periods without any need for duct-tape/beercan intervention. In this case, Evil Genius has assembled three Miatas to take on NASA's 25 Hours Of Thunderhill race next month. I've seen and heard these cars in person, and I plan to be at the track to watch them run on December 6th. Make the jump for more photos and info. galleryPost('EvilGenius25HrMazdas', 6, 'Evil Genius Mazdas Prepare For 25 Hour Race'); Here's what John has to say about his past experiences and future plans in NASA endurance racing: I’ve been competing in the NASA 25 hr race since its inception as a 12 hr back in 1995.. Usually with a first generation RX7.. last year...

We're not saying we don't like the Mazda Rotary, but it's hard to say anything bad about an RX-7 that can spin the tires in fourth gear. Jack Baruth, aka ViergangFuchs , ran across this 543-horse beast when he stopped by Matt “Tinman” Johnston's shop to pick up his new NASA Neon ACR (the previous one having been garbooned in an unfortunate car-versus-wall encounter) and gave it his unreserved stamp of approval. galleryPost('NASCARRX7', 3, '543 Horsepower Mazda'); [Autofiends]

Welcome to Project Car Hell , where you choose your eternity by selecting the project that's the coolest... and the most hellish! Last time, the Audi V8 Quattro managed to beat the gray-market BMW 745i Turbo in the Choose Your Eternity poll, in a case of Audi drivetrain complexity triumphing over BMW engine-control complexity. German-on-German Hell Challenges are always fun, but those cars were selling for over a thousand bucks each! Hard times is a-comin', folks, and that means we can't be splurging on four-figure German luxury sedans, no sir! But we still need to go fast, and that means forced induction , preferably on a budget. And no damned turbos- we mean supercharging for nickels and dimes here! GM's supercharged 3800 V6 was put in lots of different types of cars, which sold in large numbers, and they've been out there long enough to ensure that many ill-advised innovative junkyard swaps have taken place. While you could start such a project from scratch yourself...

The guys on the Bum Steers And The MooPoo Crew managed to convince Chief Perpetrator Jay Lamm that their allegedly sub-$500 Miata was fully legit. And, hey, Jay should know- he races a Miata himself. Thing is, the mob is not always rational, and the voice of the mob howled "CHEATER!" in this case. The Bum Steers were very fast, perhaps bordering on aggressive (though that's subject to a lot of interpretation), but looks like they earned the Curse almost entirely thanks to skepticism about their budget. Meanwhile, the SCHWING Team Corolla FX16 is still in the lead, with the Bikini Racer Camaro in second and the Latch Key kids moving into third place.

Combining an alternative fuel with an alternative engine design, this hydrogen-powered rotary-engined Mazda RX-8 has hit the Norwegian roads, one of 30 of the RX-8s for use in Norway as commercial leases. The hydrogen RX-8s are part of a program directed towards making hydrogen-powered vehicles mainstream in the kingdom in an effort to reduce pollution. The only emission from the tailpipe of a hydrogen-powered vehicle is water vapor, and we're impressed these hydrogen-powered Mazdas are more than just vaporware. Press release after the jump. galleryPost('hyRX8', 3, 'Hydrotary'); Mazda Hydrogen Rotary Vehicle Takes to the Road in Norway HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation today introduced the Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE (Rotary Engine) vehicle to Norway’s public roads in collaboration with the Norwegian national hydrogen project, HyNor. Initially, the RX-8 Hydrogen RE’s driving performance on Norwegian roads will be validated with a single vehicle, which will also be...

Mazda has no known intentions to make a Mazda6 Coupe, but that didn't stop a forum fan-boy over at CarSpyShots named Baji192 from rendering his own two-door interpretation of the 2009 Mazda6 . We've seen a mysterious drawing before that looked a bit more professional than this P-chop job but we're still wondering who would actually buy a coupe version, especially if it looked pretty much the same as the sedan. Besides, you'd think the market would already be saturated, what with the Toyota Camry Coupe Solara and Honda Accord Coupe . Of course, one could just say that's a market saturated with opportunity. Hit the jump for a look from the side. [via CarSpyShots ]

We saw the first official press shots of the Mazda Kiyora earier this morning, but we dug the flowing Nagare design language so much we had to hunt it down on the show floor and check it out in the flesh. As you can tell from these live shots, it certainly didn't disappoint and Mazda seriously needs to figure out a way to bring these designs to production. We're not demanding anything ridiculous like a Furai (though we wouldn't mind it), but even an otherwise boring hatch like this Kiyora looks fantastic with the Nagare styling. Press release below the jump. galleryPost('kiyoraLIVE', 12, 'Mazda Kiyora Concept, Live'); galleryPost('kiyoraInterior', 3, 'Mazda Kiyora Interior'); Mazda Kiyora – The Eco-Friendly City Car Mazda Kiyora is a small, friendly concept car designed to meet the needs of young urbanites and indicates the direction Mazda could take with a car this size in the future – especially in terms of technology. The Mazda Kiyora , revealed today at the Paris Motor Show , is the latest in a long line of Nagare -style concept cars. In fact, there’s been so many of them, Mazda hasn’t even bothered saying much about this one, other than that it’s some sort of eco-friendly city car. The company hints the 1.3-liter DISI engine under the hood could soon be seen in a production model, but gives us no word on when this style influence will find its way to production vehicles. Full press release, for what it's worth, below the jump. galleryPost('kiyorapress', 3, 'Mazda Kiyora Concept'); Mazda Kiyora – The Eco-Friendly City Car Mazda Kiyora is a small, friendly concept car designed to meet the needs of young urbanites and indicates the direction Mazda could take with a car this size in the future – especially in terms of technology. It features components that are being developed at Mazda for use in the near future – like a next-generation 1.3-litre DISI* engine, a new automatic transmission...
