UPDATE: Our gallery issue has been fixed. So check out that A1 again. Much of the speculation is now over as Audi's just let loose some details and a slew of pictures on their new A1 concept car for the Tokyo Auto Show. It's called the A1 Metroproject Quattro, and it's the same A1 plug-in hybrid concept car we told you we were expecting to see in Japan just a month or so ago. Under the hood is a 150 bhp 1.4-liter TFSI engine with power directed to the front wheels through an S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox. But wait, here's the cool part. There's a 41 HP electric motor right atop the rear axle delivering an additional load of torque on those rear wheels when you put the foot down. This A1 is a true plug-in hybrid, with the electric motor capable of powering the concept car on its own in urban areas for up to 62 miles in pure electric mode and the motor can be recharged from any power socket. On the interior you've got a radio system that looks very much like the radio from the Camaro concept...

Toyota's Tokyo Auto Show concept madness continues today with the i-Real "personal mobility vehicle" -- it's a continuation of Toyota's whole personal mobility development that started with the PM, then following up with the i-unit and following through on the i-swing. The i-Real has three wheels and a short wheelbase in low-speed mode and lengthens the wheelbase at hgher speeds for more stability and we're assuming to lower wind resistance for the very strenuous speeds we're sure it will achieve. Probably it only gets up to Segway like speeds of 13 MPH, we mean, how bad would it suck to take a bird in the face in one of these things? Full mini-release after the jump. galleryPost('ToyotaiRealConceptPress', 12, 'Toyota i-REAL Concept'); i-REAL The i-REAL is a personal mobility vehicle made closely in human scale as a step toward commercialization in the near future. * Represents the next stage of Toyota's personal mobility vehicle development, following the PM, i-unit and i-swing. * Uses...

No, it's not the mulatto-mobile. This black-and-white four-door Prius-looking vehicle is the second concept car for the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show from the number one super best automaker from the land of the rising sun. It's called the 1/X and other than a name that also happens to have been the answer to a problem in the math section of the SAT (yes, we had the SAT way back then too), it's also pronounced 1/Xth -- which we're told can be used as part of a sentence that goes: "The 1/X weighs 1/3 as much as a Toyota Prius and therefore emits only 1/3 of the emissions." All we know is the SAT flashback just gave us a huge case of the willies. Full 1/x-sized press release after the jump. galleryPost('Toyota1XConceptPress', 8, 'Toyota 1X Concept Car'); 1/X The 1/X (pronounced "one-Xth") is a concept vehicle that redefines from its very roots the idea of what it means to be environmentally considerate. Among its attributes, the vehicle-with a design that aims to harmoniously coexist with people and...

Toyota 's revealed a bevy of press shots of their new concept cars in the wee hours of the morning today in preparation for their official reveals at the Tokyo Auto Show later this month. First of the litter up this morning is the very golf-cart-like Toyota RiN concept car. Which is good it looks like a golf cart considering it's supposed to "turn the [driver] attention to society and nature." And nothing says attention to nature and society like golf -- or rather, nothing says it like relieving oneself in the woods on the 11th green after having one too many Sapporo. Full release after the jump. galleryPost('ToyotaRiNConceptPress', 12, 'Toyota RiN Concept Car'); RiN The RiN focuses on "increased comfort" and "serene, healthy living". Through their relationship to the vehicle, drivers are encouraged to reevaluate themselves and, furthermore, to turn their attention to society and nature, producing a healthy rhythm for both mind and body. * Promotes a healthier well-being thanks to features...

Step one in the Tokyo Auto Show wagon domination plot was the new Subaru WRX Sti , step two was the EXIGA seven-seater concept and now step three is to go small with the Subaru G4e concept hatchback. And not only is this hatchback tiny, it's also big in both green and passenger seating -- at least according to the press release from Subie. They claim this little four-door electric car will seat up to five passengers, go 120+ miles per charge and turn water into wine. That's right, it's the JesusHatch. We'll see it in person in just a couple of weeks at its official reveal at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show . galleryPost('SubaruG4eConceptPress', 4, 'Subaru G4e Concept Car');

Hot on the wheels of the WRX STi reveal last night, the folks at Subaru revealed their diabolical plans to rule the wagon segment at the Tokyo Auto Show later this month. The first non-production vehicle they'll be showing to complete this evil plan is a Touring concept called the EXIGA -- a seven-seater combining a spacious interior with "exhilarating driving performance." Well, you know it's got to have "exhilarating driving performance" -- because it certainly isn't going to survive on looks alone. Although that's never stopped Subaru before. Full press release after the jump. galleryPost('SubaruEXIGAConceptPress', 8, 'Subaru EXIGA Concept Wagon'); Exhibition Outline of the 40th Tokyo Motor Show 2007 Tokyo, October 9, 2007 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. While the first concept of what will end up being eighteen concepts to be revealed from Honda at the Tokyo Auto Show later this month was all warm and cuddly, the second concept Honda revealed last night is the CR-Z -- a next-generation lightweight sports car concept that stands for "Compact Renaissance Zero" and meant to take all of us back to ground zero of an era where Coke was not only something that was "it" as a soft drink, but also as a recreational drug. That's right, the CR-Z small sports compact concept car is the new glass-hatched-born-in-1983 CR-X -- except equipped with Honda's gas-electric hybrid system -- which we now here is the new "it." Except you can't snort it because it's too big -- and wouldn't really get you high anyway. Although the gas fumes do smell good. But we digress -- it's supposed to bring the small sports compact cars from Honda back to a new beginning a "Zero" point. full press release after the jump. galleryPost('HondaCRZConceptPress', 12, 'Honda CR-Z...

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/design/Honda_PUYO_concept_car_revealed_has_no_edges_and_begs_to_be_touched'; Honda 's showing this year why they're the leaders in development of concept cars with no discernible edges with this concept car built for this year's Tokyo Auto Show later this month. It's called the PUYO , a Japanese onomatopoeia expressing the sensation of -- please don't laugh here -- the design team worked very hard on it -- "touching the vehicle's soft body." Seriously. The PUYO's meant to convey a warm, friendly impression and bring together 'clean', 'safe' and 'fun' functionality in an environmentally responsible, people-friendly minimalist design featuring an ultra-high efficiency, small frame and fuel cell technology. Even the drivetrain's minimal -- a joystick for intuitive operation are all designed to gently support occupants' senses and of course, as it's the Tokyo Auto Show -- their gamer sensibilities. The Kamino-cloner car we showed you earlier is one of a few Suzuki concepts we'll be seeing first-hand later this month at the Tokyo Auto Show . A second concept car to see the sheets drop from atop it is the Suzuki X-HEAD concept car. its' like a mix between a Hummer, an El Camino and umm -- a Tonka truck? var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/design/Suzuki_releases_Kamino_cloner_concept_car_for_Tokyo_Auto_Show'; While it might look something straight off of the planet Kamino, it's actually the PIXY + SSC concept car set to be revealed by Suzuki this month at the Tokyo Auto Show . It's a mixture of personal pods, PIXY (one person riding), and pod-carrying mother ship, SSC (Suzuki sharing coach). The PIXY personal pods were designed for solitary motoring pleasure while the SSC coach car's meant to allow for the transports to be carried for longer-distance travel.
