Not happy with just taunting us with the new 2010 Chevy Cruze going on sale a year earlier in Europe than in the US, GM has now fully unveiled the World Touring Car Championship Chevy Cruze , all dolled up for serious action. The racing Cruze replaces the Chevrolet Lacetti as GM's WTCC corporate racer and will be driven by a 2.0 liter four cylinder and piloted by Brit racer Rob Huff, Swizerlander Alain Menu and Italian Nicola Larini. The rough part of this whole story is the pun-tastic headline GM uses in their press release. An audible groaner below. galleryPost('wtcccruze', 6, 'WTCC Racing Chevy Cruze'); CRUZE-ING TO VICTORY? * Chevrolet unveils new WTCC contender * 2009 car based on new Cruze global car * British driver Rob Huff continues Chevrolet involvement With a new global car on the way for 2009, the World Touring Car Championship is the perfect platform for Chevrolet to put its latest model in the public eye. A pair of University of Houston students are now the proud owners of a matching set of 2009 Chevy Aveo5 s after their conversation in the back of an Aveo5 cab was voted most popular in a GM-sponsored contest called "Chevy Aveo Livin' Large." The conversation itself was the kind of sarcastic slacker rambling about the latest Batman movie, elections and fishing college kids these days seem to be known for. At one point, one pretends to be voting for John McCain before admitting, no, he's actually voting for Obama. It isn't funny. But how did they win? The contest is based on "votes" and U of H students appear to have gamed the voting a bit, much to the displeasure of another U of H Cougar: hey the video that makes it to top 6 from U of H is going to be based on VOTES not views anymore...yalls video isn't that great...lets rep U of H and get a CRIZZZUNK video there!!! (read the rules and regulations...it's all in there) We're not surprised the conversation...

In last night's episode of Top Gear , Jeremy Clarkson put the show's engineering talents to work on building an answer to a question we never knew we had; Can you build a blender out of a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 Corvette engine? The answer, as you can see in the video below the jump, is yes. It's simply astonishing to watch a 436 HP, 424 lb-ft of torque metal monster rip up some meat. We all know Clarkson's got a thing for power, but who knew it extended from the track into the kitchen?

newVideoPlayer("/Star-Trek-Vette.flv", 494, 350,""); It looks like someone's snagged a bootleg of the trailer for the upcoming Star Trek movie off the front of the James Bond flick Quantum of Solace . While Wert may have been focused on the Ford Edge , we noticed the trailer showing a young Captain Kirk driving a C2 Corvette convertible off a cliff in an effort to evade a masked flying motorcycle lawman of some sort. The ever-defiant Kirk bails just as the Vette slides off the edge, saving himself while killing the car. The trailer goes on to show off all the well-known characters from the Trekiverse along with what appear to be a host of new baddies, the ship, and explosions. Come on, let it out — you know that closet Trekkie nerd just let out a silent whimper of excitement. We know, and it's OK, we did it too.

An editor over at Cars.com , driving between Chicago and Detroit, noticed a bright blue 2010 Chevy Camaro RS just hanging out at a gas station outside of the Motor City. We're assuming the manufacturer-plated car is probably either an early pre-production model or from GM's captive test fleet. Either that or a cash-strapped GM decided to save money by not advertising the car's release and there are a bunch of them sitting at Chevy dealerships where they'll likely never be discovered. Probably not. [ Kicking Tires ]

We've had an abnormally high number of pickup truck first drives recently — the 2009 Ford F-150 , the 2008 Toyota Tundra , the 2009 Chevy Silverado and the 2009 Dodge Ram . Why? Because we've been working in conjunction with PickupTrucks.com to bring you a full blown comparison on the 2009 models of every half-ton truck currently for sale in the 'merican market and here it is. It's got all the numbers on towing, handling, braking and acceleration — everything a serious truck buyer could ever need. Frankly, that's the easy part. The subjective determination of which one's the best? That's harder to nail down, but it's what we're here for. galleryPost('09pickupcomparo', 12, '2009 Pickup Testing Spectacular'); 2009 Pickup Truck Comparison: Auto Cross 2009 Pickup Truck Comparison: Braking Challenge Results 2009 Pickup Truck Comparison: Drag Strip Acceleration Results 2009 Pickup Truck Comparison: Towing Results The competitors...

Bad news for fans of drop top muscle cars: according to multiple sources, the Dodge Challenger Convertible has been canceled and the Chevy Camaro Convertible delayed for at least a year. Luckily Ford will be showing a 2010 Ford Mustang Convertible at next week’s LA Auto Show , with sales scheduled to start in Spring ’09. galleryPost('2011CamaroVertSpy', 3, 'Camaro Convertible'); galleryPost('teaser2010stang', 3, '2010 Ford Mustang Convertible'); galleryPost('semachallengerconvert', 3, 'SEMA Challenger Convertible'); Chrysler and GM’s decisions to respectively kill and delay the ultimate poser’s cars, convertible muscle cars were made for the same reason: money. The unibody Challenger is, unbelievably, not originally engineered to lose its top. So engineering a model capable of retaining its rigidity is, due to the financiapocalypse , now considered wayyy to expensive. Speaking to Motor Trend , a company insider described the Challenger convertible...

As much as we may be inclined to mock the Thunderstorm, which combines the nose and a powertrain of a Geo Storm with the rear end of a Subaru Brat and was constructed with an impressive level of parts-bin rummaging, we're in awe of how cool it actually is. The Thunderstorm is up for sale due to the "RECENT PASTING" of the seller's deceased "BELOVED HUSBAND" and has the lineage to prove it. Designed by someone in Alabama, the curiously-named Thunderstorm is a rolling metaphor for 1990s GM: Geo headlights, Isuzu engine, Cavalier bow ties, Subaru rear end. The Stormamino has less than 38K miles and, for a car that's mostly Japanese, a patriotic paint job. Bidding starts at just $9,999. Seller description with a list of the 20 cars that went into making this impressive amalgam below the jump. galleryPost('thunderstormgeo', 9, 'The Most American Car With An Isuzu Engine Ever'); 1992 GEO STORM "THE THUNDERSTORM" DUE TO THE RECENT PASTING...

Although we first saw n2a Motors ' Anteros back at SEMA two years ago along with the 789 retro-rod . Well, the custom coachbuilder's got a brand new bag of C6-modified tricks up its sleeve. The custom carmaker's bringing the latest version of the Anteros to the LA Auto Show later this month. This new Anteros hotness is built on the 2009 Chevy Corvette, and as usual, it's got a carbon-composite body that again looks more at home in Cambiano, Italy than Bowling Green, Kentucky. galleryPost('n2aAnterosZ06', 3, 'Z06-Based Anteros'); The new design looks to feature a ZR1-style side scoop design, but unfortunately, due to a lack of rear shots, we've no idea whether the rear gets the same googly-eyed taillights as the last model. n2a's bringing both a coupe and a convertible version of the Anteros, with the black convertible built using a stock 2009 Corvette donor car. The drop-top features the 430 HP, 424 lb-ft of torque LS3 V8 under the hood. The silver...

Attempting to prove once and for all driving cross-country quickly doesn’t require a trust fund, an ego or a BMW M5, Top Gear magazine set out this weekend to drive from New York to San Francisco — 2904 miles — on just $2904. And yes, that does include the car. More used to spending the spoils of British TV License fee payers on Dodge Challenger SRT8s , the Beeb had to enlist a little expertise in making big things happen on a small budget; Jalopnik ’s own Ben Wojdyla. He’s live-blogging the drive for them from the back seat of the ’94 Caprice over on TopGear.com as we speak. [The tag page for "2904" doesn't appear to work, so just head over to the US blog: Top Gear US Blog ]

When pictures of the Top Gear team coming stateside hit the internet this summer , we were pretty sure we were in for something epic. Well, the episode just aired today, and yes, it was. From Hammond having to buy a Challenger (silly Chrysler PR team!), the boys not being allowed to be "entertaining," some kid wearing a Western Michigan t-shirt and Clarkson mistaking the ZR1 for a "muscle car" — it's a hoot. In the process, they came to the same conclusions we did in our reviews of the three newest 'merican muscular offerings on the market. Want to see the segment yourself? Hit the jump, friends. galleryPost('tguksaltflats', 12, 'Top Gear Hits The Salt Flats'); Clarkson on all three: "We came wondering if America had finally made a car that might actually work in the civilized world. The answer is no, they haven't. As you can see from our smiles, they've made three." Car: 2009 Corvette ZR1 Driver: Jeremy Clarkson Review...

Rumors of tomorrow's " important changes " at GM have approached a fevered pace, but the latest one we've heard is coming directly from someone who's directly related to someone who could be directly affected if the rumor is true. So, it must be true, right? Anyway, we've just been told by the family of a Chevy Volt engineering team member that not only is the untouchable Volt program on hold, GM's even letting some of the engineering team, aka "the chosen people," go. Hit the jump for the full rumor. "My uncle works on the Volt as an engineer. He's getting laid off Friday because apparantly the project (aka VOLT) is on hold indefinitely." We've put in a call to GM PR to ask them about the veracity of our tipsters claim, but we've yet to receive a response. We'll let you know when we've got more to tell you — but in terms of reliability, it would mean yesterday's Reuters report claiming GM was expanding R&D...

Hit the jump for the full rumor. UPDATE: One PR source is telling us this morning that the Volt program is definitely not on hold and another is telling us all options are still on the table. We guess we'll find out later today. UPDATE #2: We're now being told, more vigorously this time, that there's no plan to cut the program. "My uncle works on the Volt as an engineer. In case you haven't seen the 2010 Chevy Camaro enough yet, GM is bringing four concept Camaros to SEMA this week, some of them actually interesting. The lineup includes the Camaro LS7 Concept (guess what that one's got under the hood), Camaro Dale Earnhardt Jr. Concept (yeah, we figured), Camaro Black Concept and the Camaro GS Racecar Concept, along with a GM Performance Parts car loaded to the gills with stuff you can buy for your Camaro — the one that won't be in your garage until at least next year.
