Not happy with just taunting us with the new 2010 Chevy Cruze going on sale a year earlier in Europe than in the US, GM has now fully unveiled the World Touring Car Championship Chevy Cruze , all dolled up for serious action. The racing Cruze replaces the Chevrolet Lacetti as GM's WTCC corporate racer and will be driven by a 2.0 liter four cylinder and piloted by Brit racer Rob Huff, Swizerlander Alain Menu and Italian Nicola Larini. The rough part of this whole story is the pun-tastic headline GM uses in their press release. Some SUV buyers tend to feel that they're captaining the dreadnoughts of the road, impervious to all harm and thus free to futz with cupholders and electronic gadgetry rather than pay attention to traffic signals. In this incident in Texas- which, fortunately, did not result in any major injuries- a Chevy Tahoe was T-boned by a Mini Cooper and flipped right over. LeMons Neon racer and Enzo rejuvenator Matt Groner sends us these photos and a description of the wreck written by his friend, who was behind the wheel of the Mini: These pictures were taken by one of the firemen who were called to the scene, with his camera phone. The officials who responded to the accident could not believe that the Mini (and I) sustained so little damage. The other vehicle involved is a Chevy Tahoe. I was driving south on a one-way street and the other driver was driving west, also on a one-way street. The other driver ran a red light (that had been red for a long time) and appeared in the intersection just...

Welcome to Down On The Street , where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. Hooray for old Detroit station wagons! You don't see many small Detroit wagons these days, since the Vista Cruisers and Country Squires sold in such greater numbers back in the pre-SUV era, so I was very happy to spot this bright yellow, Moon disc-equipped Chevy II (or maybe it's a Nova- hard to say with the emblems removed) parked downtown. You could get your little Chevy wagon with a 153-cubic-inch four-cylinder- whoa, a four -cylinder in a 60s Detroit wagon? Call the HUAC! You could also get a 194-cube six-cylinder; sorry, V8 fans, you had to wait until '64 for an optional 283 in your Chevy II. Even though this wagon's owner is clearly a salt-flat-crazed hot rod hoodlum, the single exhaust suggests that he or she has kept the four or six under the hood. Parts runnner? A pair of University of Houston students are now the proud owners of a matching set of 2009 Chevy Aveo5 s after their conversation in the back of an Aveo5 cab was voted most popular in a GM-sponsored contest called "Chevy Aveo Livin' Large." The conversation itself was the kind of sarcastic slacker rambling about the latest Batman movie, elections and fishing college kids these days seem to be known for. At one point, one pretends to be voting for John McCain before admitting, no, he's actually voting for Obama. It isn't funny. But how did they win? The contest is based on "votes" and U of H students appear to have gamed the voting a bit, much to the displeasure of another U of H Cougar: hey the video that makes it to top 6 from U of H is going to be based on VOTES not views anymore...yalls video isn't that great...lets rep U of H and get a CRIZZZUNK video there!!! (read the rules and regulations...it's all in there) We're not surprised the conversation...

newVideoPlayer("/Star-Trek-Vette.flv", 494, 350,""); It looks like someone's snagged a bootleg of the trailer for the upcoming Star Trek movie off the front of the James Bond flick Quantum of Solace . While Wert may have been focused on the Ford Edge , we noticed the trailer showing a young Captain Kirk driving a C2 Corvette convertible off a cliff in an effort to evade a masked flying motorcycle lawman of some sort. The ever-defiant Kirk bails just as the Vette slides off the edge, saving himself while killing the car. The trailer goes on to show off all the well-known characters from the Trekiverse along with what appear to be a host of new baddies, the ship, and explosions. Come on, let it out — you know that closet Trekkie nerd just let out a silent whimper of excitement. We know, and it's OK, we did it too.

An editor over at Cars.com , driving between Chicago and Detroit, noticed a bright blue 2010 Chevy Camaro RS just hanging out at a gas station outside of the Motor City. We're assuming the manufacturer-plated car is probably either an early pre-production model or from GM's captive test fleet. Either that or a cash-strapped GM decided to save money by not advertising the car's release and there are a bunch of them sitting at Chevy dealerships where they'll likely never be discovered. While Team Unsafe At Any Speed will be bringing a '65 Corvair to the Arse Freeze-A-Pa-Looza 24 Hours Of LeMons next month- thus snarfing the coveted Ralph Nader theme- they'll only be tying the record for Oldest LeMons Car Ever, since Team Field Find's Mercedes-Benz 190 was also a '65. Not only that, their car is safe at some speeds, because by '65 the Corvair had a Communist-mandated IRS rear instead of the patriotic swingaxle of the early models. UDMan , however, is made of sterner stuff, and he's gearing up to race a 46-year-old Corvair at next year's LeMons New England race… and he's looking for teammates! We haven't had an Engine Of The Day for a while, but the Chevrolet Series D V8 engine deserves some attention. 288 cubic inches, overhead valves, crossflow heads… and it was manufactured 38 years before the small-block Chevrolet engine. That's right, Chevrolet had an OHV V8, generating an excellent-for-its-time 55 horsepower, back in 1917! Chevrolet was absorbed by General Motors that year, and the Series D was dropped when The General's marketers decided to make Chevrolet its low-priced marque… but imagine what might have been, had early hot-rodders become accustomed to cheap V8s in the decades before the Ford Flathead V8 . Although we first saw n2a Motors ' Anteros back at SEMA two years ago along with the 789 retro-rod . Well, the custom coachbuilder's got a brand new bag of C6-modified tricks up its sleeve. The custom carmaker's bringing the latest version of the Anteros to the LA Auto Show later this month. When pictures of the Top Gear team coming stateside hit the internet this summer , we were pretty sure we were in for something epic. Well, the episode just aired today, and yes, it was. From Hammond having to buy a Challenger (silly Chrysler PR team!), the boys not being allowed to be "entertaining," some kid wearing a Western Michigan t-shirt and Clarkson mistaking the ZR1 for a "muscle car" — it's a hoot. This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . I just got back from Denver, where I photographed a few cool old cars parked on the street, including a very nice early Mini… but you don't get to see that today. Instead, you get something even better! Denver-based Kitt and EJacobs continue to send in good stuff found in their neighborhoods (south and northwest Denver, respectively), and today we'll be admiring a trio of vintage Detroit wagons that continue to remind us that SUVs didn't always reign supreme in the family-hauling department.
