Not happy with just taunting us with the new 2010 Chevy Cruze going on sale a year earlier in Europe than in the US, GM has now fully unveiled the World Touring Car Championship Chevy Cruze , all dolled up for serious action. The racing Cruze replaces the Chevrolet Lacetti as GM's WTCC corporate racer and will be driven by a 2.0 liter four cylinder and piloted by Brit racer Rob Huff, Swizerlander Alain Menu and Italian Nicola Larini. The rough part of this whole story is the pun-tastic headline GM uses in their press release. An audible groaner below. galleryPost('wtcccruze', 6, 'WTCC Racing Chevy Cruze'); CRUZE-ING TO VICTORY? * Chevrolet unveils new WTCC contender * 2009 car based on new Cruze global car * British driver Rob Huff continues Chevrolet involvement With a new global car on the way for 2009, the World Touring Car Championship is the perfect platform for Chevrolet to put its latest model in the public eye. Chevy has 12 World Touring Car Championship s under its belt already, and the company is gunning for another with its new WTCC-prepped and stickered Chevy Cruze . Yes, you heard that right — the econobox you can't ignore is undergoing testing and engineering right now with a scheduled debut at Curitiba, Brazil during the opening race of the 2009 season. Chevy appears to be aiming for consistency, with the same team and drivers they've previously used arming up for battle with the new Cruze. We'll see how competitive the new car is on March 8, when the 2009 season kicks off. Full release after the jump. galleryPost('chevywtcccruze', 3, 'Cruze Prepped For World Touring Car Championship Action'); CHEVROLET PRESENTS NEW CRUZE FOR 2009 WTCC To Continue Chevrolet’s World Touring Car Success ZÜRICH / WELLINGBOROUGH – Chevrolet Europe has shown the first glimpse of the marque’s 2009 World Touring Car Championship contender, today. GM just officially unveiled the Chevy Cruze ’s interior in Paris, and it’s surprisingly nice. Maybe a bit Honda-like, but welcoming and contemporary nonetheless. Aside from the colorful fabric inserts, the new global economy car’s dash relies on an integrated center stack that does away with traditional partitions for the interfaces, grouping them all into one, central unit. Also noteworthy are the attractive instruments. In fact, looking at these pictures, it’s hard to tell that the Cruze will be a bargain, inside; it looks almost as up-market as a 2008 Honda Accord . The release follows the jump. galleryPost('chevycruzeinterioroct1', 3, 'Chevy Cruze'); Paris – Today General Motors President and Chief Operating Officer Fritz Henderson and Ed Welburn, vice president of Global Design revealed the all-new Chevrolet Cruze at a special premiere event at the “Le Pavillon Dauphine”, located in the heart of Paris. Looks like Daewoo is getting a re-badged version of the Chevy Cruze . The 40+ MPG mass-market economy-car game-changer is destined to be sold globally, heralding a new era of practical, desirable, frugal cars from GM. Expect the Daewoo version to offer both the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine as well as the 150 HP turbo diesel the Cruze will come equipped with in Europe. Oh yeah, there’s that big ugly chrome grille too. galleryPost('daewoocruze', 3, 'Daewoo Cruze'); [ via Burlapp Cars]

If you're a GM fan-boy, you're probably a pretty happy camper this week. GM's celebrating its centennial and you've seen the live reveals of both the upcoming Chevy Cruze , the 40 MPG+ econobox you can't ignore yesterday , and today , the Chevy Volt , GM's resuscitation of the electric car. One of these two will save GM, the other will not. If you can't tell from the headline, let's make it clear again: Keep your fancy-pants electric cars, GM — you won't be saved by the Chevy Volt. No, instead, it's the little Chevy Cruze that should get the savior-like halo. galleryPost('2011VoltNotSavior', 9, 'Chevy Volt - Mass Market MPG'); galleryPost('2010ChevyCruzeLiveD', 9, 'Chevy Cruze - MPG For The Masses'); Despite the hype, and as I laid out in a piece today for Popular Mechanics , the Volt, Tesla Roadster, the upcoming plug-in Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight will not be what I'd call mass-market game-changers...

Despite the Lordstown reveal of the all-foam 2010 Chevy Cruze , a real one was spotted in a parking lot wearing only a domino mask over the badge, as if nobody would notice. The Cruze has been overshadowed by the PR tour de force that is the Chevy Volt ; that said, the 45 MPG Cruze is shaping up to be a very serious contender, and these are the first virtually camo-free images we've seen of the car out in the wild. Is it wrong we're actually excited about getting behind the wheel of what's essentially an econobox done right? galleryPost('10chevycruze', 6, '2010 Chevy Cruze Nearly Naked'); [ Photobucket via ABGreen ]

Carscoop is reporting that inside sources tell them the production version of the Chevy Volt will join the Chevy Cruze , along with an unidentified Chevy concept vehicle, at the Paris Motor Show next month. That would mark the first show appearance for the Volt, which is expected to be revealed to the press on Tuesday, September 16. GM has been slowly revealing bits and pieces of the plug-in electric hybrid for months now; we recently told you about GM's plans to have at least 50 prototypes running around metro Detroit by the end of the year, so seeing a Volt up close shouldn't be too tough after Paris. GM just dropped high resolution images of the upcoming Chevy Cruze small four-door on us in advance of its Paris Motor Show unveil later this year. We must say that at first glance, we're quite impressed. The new car gets a striking design which mixes smooth planes and sharp lines for a surprisingly handsome design. Oddly, the tail lights on the Cruze mimic the headlight design we've seen on the upcoming Chevy Equinox while also receiving the new bold front end from the Chevy Malibu. If this is the direction GM's small cars are going, we've gotta say, our interest is piqued. But that's just the design. We're also told the new Chevy Cruze will get three engines when it launches in Europe in March of 2009; a 16-valve, 1.6-liter (112 hp) and 1.8-liter (140 hp) gasoline engine, plus a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel (150 HP). All will be mated to either a five-speed manual or a class-leading six-speed automatic transmission. No official word yet on fuel economy — but...

Although it's not the first photo showing what to expect from the interior of the new Chevy Cruze , it's much clearer than the last shot . We're told the new fuel sipper from Chevrolet will hit the showroom floors as a 2010 model, sport an impressive-if-true 45 MPG and will be built out of the General's Lordstown, OH plant, just across the assembly line from it's Chevy brother the Cobalt. Oh, ignore the Daewoo logo — we're expecting it to be built for the KDM (Korean Domestic Market) as well. Jalopnik Snap Judgment: So what do we think of the interior of the 2010 Chevy Cobalt ? It looks pretty darn good for an car sitting in a segment we hope we never have to buy in. Although we were initially a little concerned with the colors on the first shot of the Cruze's interior , the two-tone color scheme of the dash and seats, good curves and rounded edges — it looks pretty snazzy to us. What else do we expect from a brand that's done wonders to the interior...

The clamor of every auto enthusiast outlet on the face of this earth was apparently too much for GM. They've just released slightly less grainy shots of what we showed you first Tuesday afternoon — the vehicles "Slick" Rick Wagoner revealed at Tuesday's press conference. Apparently none of the assembled outlets were able to figure out how we got our mitts on those shots of the 2011 Chevy Cruze , 2010 Cadillac SRX , 2010 Chevy Equinox , 2010 Saab 9-4X and an unnamed Buick sedan for 2010 — and of course we're not planning on revealing our slightly silly source. But, thanks to their demand for access, we now get an ever-so-slightly better look at the purported saviors of the GM sales world. Have a gander. galleryPost('GMSpyPhotos', 6, 'GM Shows Us Its Pix');
