Those on the fence about the new Knight Rider television show need look no further than these shots of the newly upgraded KITT from Popular Mechanics shot at Comic-Con 2008 . At a panel discussion in front of Knight Rider fanboys-girls they showed video of KITT employing Turbo Boost (before a very long press conference where the actor that plays Mike Tracer admitted he drives a supercharged Bullitt). The video apparently also featured the actors getting into a truck version of KITT — a KITTchero if you will. galleryPost('ComConSuperP', 4, 'That Badge Delete Option Is Very Subtle'); [ Popular Mechancis ]

newVideoPlayer("AImustang_Jalop.flv", 494, 390,""); The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser. If you thought the GT500KR in the Knight Rider made-for-TV movie was a disgusting piece of product placement, you ain't seen nothin' yet. What could be worse? How about the four remaining contestants in American Idol massacring Johnny Cash's song Ring Of Fire ? What makes it extra terrible was the so-called "music video" which involved the Idols bullfighting with a Mustang which was apparently the cousin of KITT . Feel free to watch the clip with your sound turned off— we don't want to scar you. [ americanidol.com ]

We occasionally see lists of the best television cars pop up on the Internet, and we always find ourselves at a loss to understand why people feel the need to limit themselves to just ten. A good list should probably come in closer to 30, so it's not just predictable choices like K.I.T.T. and the Batmobile . The list below isn't a bad attempt, though we're sad to see the Ferrari Daytona from Miami Vice didn't make the cut. Anything else missing? Top Ten Most Memorable TV Cars 10. The Beverly Hillbillies' Truck 9. Starsky's 1975 Ford Gran Torino 8. The Original Batmobile 7.1983 GMC G-Series A Team Van 6. Thomas Magnum's Ferrari 308 GTS From Magnum P.I. 5. The Flintstones' Flintmobile 4. The Vista Cruiser from That 70's Show 3. The Car From My Mother The Car 2. The Original K.I.T.T. 1. The General Lee [Internet Broadcasting via WKMG ]

That's what we're hearing anyway. Although this may seem as rumortastic as they come, but we feel our source is solid -- he's a loyal Jalopnik reader with a validated connection to an LA FX studio working on the pilot for the new Knight Rider TV show. Our source is claiming he's got it on good authority that KITT's gonna be a Ford Mustang. Hey, maybe that takes care of that whole Mustang variant issue for 2009, right? In fact, maybe KITT'll even be a Roush Blackjack like the one p-shopped above and in the gallery below. We don't know -- but we're going to do some investigating. galleryPost('FordMustangKnightRider', 3, ' Could Blackjack Be The New KITT'); If this ends up being true -- Ford's totally gonna be pwning the General in this round of the Muscle Car Wars . In fact, it'd be an assault to all that GM holds true to see a 'stang as the pony car playing Michael's ride. We'll have to wait and see what we're able to...
