  • Even The Dutch Heard About Joe The Plumber [Ad Watch]

This clever "Joe The Plumber" ad placed by Citroën in De Telegraaf , the largest paper in The Netherlands, opposite the November 5th election results. Designed by advertising agency Euro RSCG, the ad for the Citroën Berlingo played off of the almost surreal emergence of "Joe The Plumber" as a figure in the 2008 Presidential Election. As Joe was meant to represent all small business owners and tradesman, pairing it with a vehicle designed for just this crowd was a smart choice. Next to a page of choices, the Berlingo is Joe's true choice. Utilizing the interest over the election and placing the ad where people will most likely get the joke was another brilliant choice. These kinds of ads, which take advantage of predictable events, are a good way to stretch advertising dollars. In fact, this wasn't even a full page ad but it surely has a large impact. • Citroen Subtly Blends French Cars, Disco and Transformers [Ad Watch]

newVideoPlayer("/citroentransformerstayinalive.flv", 494, 300,""); Before Michael "Awesome" Bay brought Transformers to life on the big screen, Citroen had a series of advertisements with similar transforming robo-cars. This ad for the new Citroen C4 continues where the old ads left off, but now the robo-car has come to New York City and has apparently developed a taste for disco-era Bee Gees music. Of course, Citroen doesn't sell their cars in the US, but that doesn't mean they can't come over here to dance in the streets.
  • Aveobots, Roll Out: Chevy Takes Swipe At Transforming Citroen In New Euro Econobox Ad [Ad Watch]

newVideoPlayer("CitroenAveoTransformer_gawker.flv", 494, 350,""); Whether it's a C4 on top of a parking garage , the same C4 showing off a penchant for ice-skating or a Chinese man just looking to score with the ladies , Citroens like to transform. In fact, so much so they've already been made fun of once before in a faux ad for the 2CV . But now another automaker's getting into the act in a new ad from the brand all about the 'merican revolution in a commercial for the new Kalos-replacing five-door hatchback Aveo econo-box . That's right, Chevy — the very last brand you'd ever expect to be knocking a badge for advertising their love of cars that transform into robots. We're guessing someone at Chevy's ad agency may have forgotten Chevys like to transform too — heck, they even have a toy version of the Aveo named " Swerve ." Talk about the heights of hypocrisy. Unless Chevy's just making fun of Citroens for dancing...
  • Ad Watch: Play Rubik's Cube With The Citroen C1?

newVideoPlayer("CitroenC1Rubik_gawker.flv", 475, 376); We're so very confused with this car-flipping ad proclaiming the Citroen C1 as an "urban solution." How is it an urban solution if you can play a game of Rubik's cube with your car. We just don't get it. Hey, Navarro -- why don't you get your two cents out of that Caddy commercial and drop them into this here arcade machine -- because we're just stumped.
