newVideoPlayer("Scirocco_video.flv", 494, 350,""); We refuse to believe someone was paid to produce this Volkswagen Scirocco video that's so bad it makes us feel itchy. Why is this man driving a Scirocco through a barren desert landscape? Well, he's being chased by the worlds laziest police force — apparently there for comedic effect, rather than an actual car chase. Is the Scirocco so titillating — so mind-bendingly amazing — that when they finally catch up to him in an airport hanger, they forget the driver is still in the car? Bad car ad, bad. No, no, no — rub your nose in it! [ Youtube via Carscoop ]

newVideoPlayer("Pontiac_v_BMW.flv", 463, 387,""); From the book of car, whatever that is, comes the latest in the march of ads for the Pontiac G8 GT . We all thought the Spy Hunter commercial was clever, and the Hot Wheels one was slick too. This new web-only commercial turns it up a notch, taking the fight right to the lion's den, comparing the new 2008 Pontiac G8 GT to the BMW 5-Series. Hmm, that's an interesting approach from the brand that never used to drive excitement, especially when they claimed they were , but since it's their ad, do we really have to say who comes out ahead in this one? What we really like about this latest commercial is the poetry slam vs. powerpoint presentation style, plus the funny pictures of goats. Subtle allusion to the Pontiacs of the past, perhaps, but automakers should remember that farm animals always make for a good direction for a car commercial. At least in our minds. [ Youtube ]

We first dropped news of what seems to be the viral ad campaign for the 2009 BMW 1-Series called "Rampenfest" a couple of weeks ago, but now there's an update on the progress of things. We received an email from "Jeff Schultz," the apparent documentarian, congratulating us on being the first to discover the project and informing us there's a poster in our future for the effort. We smell direct marketing, but what the hey, maybe we can give away a poster. Anyway, the trailer for the film is over at the Rampenfest, and it's ripe with German stereotypes, bizarrely large teeth, and a ginormous ramp in the fake town of Oberpfaffelbachen.

We were lured to Toyota's 2009 Matrix website by way of flash video ad featuring an old lanky black man in a suit wearing tin foil shoes talking about aliens. That seems to have been sane for the marketing Toyota is using for online promotion of its new miniwagon. The site yourotheryou.com is based primarily around the pretense of 'pranking' a friend somehow but only if you hand over your and their personal contact information. We're sure it will only be used for the pranking, absolutely no targeted mailers right. In any case, we decided it may be fun to 'prank' ourselves and see just how clever or lame this is. The game will unfold over the course of five days, beginning today. Always helpful, Toyota has provided a schedule to track the progress of our self prankulation. - 3/13/08: The Mystery Caller - 3/14/08: We Know Where You Live - 3/15/08: The Coronett Motel - 3/16/08: The Sign - 3/17/08: The Grand Finale We suspect this will end up with a deluge of glossy...
