BMW rolled out the red carpet for the debut of the new 2009 BMW 7-Series and BMW Concept 7-Series ActiveHybrid , both driving across the carpet under power of BMW's twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. The difference is while the 2009 7-Series moved with the force of 400 HP and 450 lb-ft of torque, the 7-Series ActiveHybid had an additional 20 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque on tap thanks to the addition of an electric motor. The former will go on sale early next year while the latter is but a concept, though one we believe is close to the design of a future BMW hybrid. Press releases and live photos below. galleryPost('BMW7LiveLA08', 9, 'BMW 7-Series Live'); galleryPost('BMW7HybridLiveLA08', 9, 'BMW 7-Series Hybrid Live'); Check out more on the BMW 7-Series from CarandDriver.com BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid: The BMW of hybrids As an integral part of the BMW EfficientDynamics strategy, the BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid previews the potential of BMW ActiveHybrid...

Ahead of its official reveal at the LA Auto Show , the official details on the BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid have finally been released after months of us sitting on the edges of our seats, waiting with bated breath. The ActiveHybrid (as opposed to the other name considered "LazyHybrid") is a "preview of potential" for things to come from BMW and shows off a mild hybrid operating from a motor integrated transmission, which was jointly developed with Chrysler and General Motors. The motor "assists" a 400 HP, 450 lb-ft, 4.4 liter V8 with it's own 20 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque providing oil barons with cognitive dissonance the feel-good benefit of 15% better fuel economy. Complete details in an uncompromisingly self satisfied press release below. galleryPost('hybrid7', 9, 'BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid'); Check out more on the 7-series Hybrid Concept from CarandDriver.com BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid: The BMW of hybrids As an integral...

The next generation 7-Series has officially arrived, though if you've been paying attention you've already seen the 2009 BMW 7-series and therefore know that the design team has gone to great effort to correct the car's awkward-looking posterior. A new twin-turbocharged, direct-injection 4.4-liter V8 manages 400 HP and 450 lb-ft of torque, which should make the chauffeur happy. If you find yourself behind the wheel there's a plethora of technology to keep you from killing yourself including Active Cruise Control, Active Blind Spot Detection, BMW Night Vision and cameras on the side and rear of the luxo-yacht. The new 7-series is also the first BMW with a multi-link double-wishbone front suspension. It's something to think about on the way to the appointment with your increasingly distressed stock broker. galleryPost('09bmwsevenpre', 3, '2009 BMW 7-Series'); Check out more on the BMW 7-Series from CarandDriver.com BMW 7 Series again sets the benchmark...

Infiniti just released this image of the 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible . Not pictured is the folding hard top, the four seats or the complete and utter lack of trunk space. Power will be from the same 3.7-liter, 320 HP V6 as the coupe, which should easily move the extra weight. Expect more details and photos as the November LA Auto Show draws closer. galleryPost('2009infinitig37convertible', 3, '2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible');

Yeah, so the Jaguar XF is here. On sale in March of '08, the 300 hp sedan will set you back $49,975 and the supercharged, 400 hp version cost you an additional $13,000. However, it will muscle its way to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. We like that. Sadly, despite designer Ian Callum's best efforts the looks still leave us cold. Well, not exactly cold, but viewed from the side, everything behind the B-pillar looks like an Infiniti G and the short front fenders scream FWD. The headlamps are sharp and the taillights scream Aston Martin, which we think we like. Yeah, so... anyone see that French Tatra ? galleryPost('usxf', 8, '2009 Jaguar XF US Reveal');

Here's a question for you: how do you feel about a hybrid Hemi? Somebody please answer for Danio as I know his head just popped. With the electric motor, both vehicles can summon up 385 horsepower. No mention of torque (either at the reveal or in the press release ) but both "two-mode" big 'ol hybrid boys showed up towing toys. The Chrysler got a horse trailer while the Dodge had a boat. ChryslerCerebusDodge is claiming that gas mileage in the city will be up by 40% while highway numbers will improve by 25%. The actual numbers? ChryslerCerebusDodge didn't say, which of course reminds me of an old Simpsons bit. "Each newspaper contains a certain percent of recycled paper." To which Lisa asks, "What percent is that?" The answer, "Zero. Zero's a percent." galleryPost('chryslerhybrids', 8, 'Hemi Hybrids');

We showed the press shots of the new 2009 Lincoln MKS late last night -- and now here it is -- the car Ford CEO Alan Mulally just called the "Caddy-killer" has just been revealed live here at the LA Auto Show. Look at that boldly designed "double winged split grille" signifying the "new design language of the Lincoln brand" as explained to the press folks by Mark "the Mullet" Fields and Peter "Hi I'm Dave" Horbury. It's a look we're affectionately calling the "Horbury hangnail." Next look at that boldly stolen-from-the-new-CTS rear end. Yup, that's most certainly -- a something. Full press release on this Sangria-colored Lincoln with "reclaimed sandlewood" interior after the jump. Oh, and did we mention it comes with Sync and it'll start with $37,985 with the 3.7-liter V6 and the 6-speed auto tranny -- with pricing topping out at just under $50K? We didn't think so. galleryPost('2009LincolnmksLAL'...

Tomorrow here at the LA Auto Show, an automaker will finally be announcing they've built themselves a dual-mode hybrid pickup truck. But who knew the automaker that'd get 'er done would be GM? That's right the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado hybrid will be the industry's most fuel-efficient full-size pickup truck with a GM-claimed 40% increase in city fuel economy and 25% increase in overall fuel economy. Supposedly the new electric towing sled from the General will even be able to stay in electric-only mode up to 30 MPH for almost three miles (although some engineers claim this number is actually only 1.5 miles). Also we're kinda wishing the General hadn't tossed a big, silly "Hybrid" sticker on the side of the truck. Maybe they'll fix that when they reveal the "Professional Grade" model for the Detroit Auto Show. Full press release after the jump. galleryPost('2009SilveradoHybrid', 8, '2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid'); 2009...
