Official press photos of the new European market Honda Insight made their way onto the web today a wee bit earlier than Honda wanted. But, all that means is we've got a full gallery below. We showed you blurry images of a leaked JDM Insight brochure last month, but we’ve received a set of leaked images ahead of the 2010 Honda Insight’s official debut on January 11th at the Detroit Auto Show . What’s shown is a European-spec model that will likely be very similar to our own U.S. version, though in left-hand drive configuration. galleryPost('productioninsight', 6, 'Production Euro-Spec Insight Photos'); What we can see from these new photos is that the production Insight has lost some of the Paris Motor Show Insight concept’s flashy lighting features and it’s also toned down the rear design quite a bit. Overall the translation from show car to production has served Honda’s earth-saving hybrid well. galleryPost('insightdetails', 6, 'Production Euro-Spec Insight...

Honda’s readying its production Insight for worldwide debut at the Detroit Auto Show two weeks from now, but we’ve got scans of what looks to be the sporty Modulo version for you now. We showed you the front three-quarter shot that Honda provided of its production Insight earlier this month and we just recently received these scans from a poster at the Temple of Vtec . Depicted are the first shots of the production Insight from the rear three-quarter as well as its interior. galleryPost('hondinsightjpscans', 8, 'The Body Kits Now Make Cars Faster And More Fuel Efficient'); While the front design of the 2010 Honda Insight goes largely unchanged from the Insight Concept , the rear design is tidied up a bit and loses some of its show car flair. The interior is also very similar to what was shown in the Paris Motor Show Insight Concept , but it loses some of the neat capacitive touch button surfaces in favor of traditional push buttons. Also shown is what appears to be the sportier...

Following yesterday's hind end reveal of the Fisker Karma Tesla-killer, today we get a low-resolution peek at its nose ahead of an official reveal at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show . Again we see the production-intent car mimics the concept car almost identically, though the grille is revised nicely for a much sleeker look. But what of the details of this unique luxury automobile? The price has been revised from the original $80,000 upwards to around $87,900 but along with the price we get specs. The Karma will get not one, but two electric motors as part of its "Q-drive" powertain system, and they augment a 265 HP GM Ecotec turbocharged four cylinder for a grand total of 408 HP and 959 lb-ft of torque. In full sport mode that car will scoot from zero to 60 MPH in only 5.8 seconds, top speed is pegged at 125 MPH. Switch it down to miser mode and you can go 50 miles in all electric mode, drawing power from the lithium-ion battery pack. Production is planned for 15,000 cars a year...

If we take out our crystal ball and look forward two months, the big three will have their precious loans in hand, Barack Obama will have solved global warming and given everyone a puppy that craps rainbows, and the 2009 Fisker Karma will be fighting the 2010 Toyota Prius and the 2010 Honda Insight for bragging rights as press darlings of the 2009 Detroit Auto Show . Considering this preview image looks pretty much exactly like the original concept right down to the solar panel roof, it's going to be tough for the decidedly less sexy Prius and Insight to keep up. The car will be debuting at the Detroit Auto Show just one year after it rocked the boat with its debut and ambitious production timeline. We can already see where this is going. Looking deeper into that crystal ball, we can already hear the sensationalist articles spouting off about how the Karma is proof of the ineptitude of the Not-So-Big Three — look what they were able to do in only one year after all! That'll...

BMW rolled out the red carpet for the debut of the new 2009 BMW 7-Series and BMW Concept 7-Series ActiveHybrid , both driving across the carpet under power of BMW's twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. The difference is while the 2009 7-Series moved with the force of 400 HP and 450 lb-ft of torque, the 7-Series ActiveHybid had an additional 20 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque on tap thanks to the addition of an electric motor. The former will go on sale early next year while the latter is but a concept, though one we believe is close to the design of a future BMW hybrid. Ahead of its official reveal at the LA Auto Show , the official details on the BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid have finally been released after months of us sitting on the edges of our seats, waiting with bated breath. The ActiveHybrid (as opposed to the other name considered "LazyHybrid") is a "preview of potential" for things to come from BMW and shows off a mild hybrid operating from a motor integrated transmission, which was jointly developed with Chrysler and General Motors. The motor "assists" a 400 HP, 450 lb-ft, 4.4 liter V8 with it's own 20 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque providing oil barons with cognitive dissonance the feel-good benefit of 15% better fuel economy. Complete details in an uncompromisingly self satisfied press release below. galleryPost('hybrid7', 9, 'BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid'); Check out more on the 7-series Hybrid Concept from CarandDriver.com BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid: The BMW of hybrids As an integral...

Speaking at today's 2009 Pilot launch, Takeo Fukui, Honda's President announced his company is producing a new stand-alone small hybrid for the 2009 model year. The Vehicle, which will use their new IMA compact hybrid system, will retail at a cheaper price than any Honda hybrid yet. The company intend to produce 200,000 units of the hybrid, with 100,000 of them coming to North America. By 2010, Honda want Hybrids to account for 10% of their global sales. They're also planning a production version of hte CR-Z concept shown in Tokyo, it'll be a hybrid too.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Porsche_releases_info_teaser_shot_of_new_Panamera_hybrid'; Such teases, those Porsche types. Just weeks after telling the German press they're not quite sold on the whole hybrid thing, sales wise, the company's released details on the gas-electric version of its coming Panamera four-door. (Wait, did we say Panamera ? Yes, we did.) That means the top-view rendering above, while informing us of the new e-gas tech with cutaway and callouts, provides one of the first representations of the actual car we've seen from the Stuttgart studio. As expected, the modular hybrid drivetrain is the same joint-VW/Audi rig found in the recently revealed hybrid Cayenne . The system allows for joint gas/electric operation during acceleration and electric-only propulsion at highway speeds. That for highly excellent and most precise driving dynamism, no doubt. (Press release after the jump.) galleryPost('panamerahybridcut', 8, 'Porsche Panamera...

Here's a question for you: how do you feel about a hybrid Hemi? Somebody please answer for Danio as I know his head just popped. With the electric motor, both vehicles can summon up 385 horsepower. No mention of torque (either at the reveal or in the press release ) but both "two-mode" big 'ol hybrid boys showed up towing toys. The Chrysler got a horse trailer while the Dodge had a boat. ChryslerCerebusDodge is claiming that gas mileage in the city will be up by 40% while highway numbers will improve by 25%. The actual numbers? ChryslerCerebusDodge didn't say, which of course reminds me of an old Simpsons bit. "Each newspaper contains a certain percent of recycled paper." To which Lisa asks, "What percent is that?" The answer, "Zero. Zero's a percent." galleryPost('chryslerhybrids', 8, 'Hemi Hybrids');

Tomorrow here at the LA Auto Show, an automaker will finally be announcing they've built themselves a dual-mode hybrid pickup truck. But who knew the automaker that'd get 'er done would be GM? That's right the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado hybrid will be the industry's most fuel-efficient full-size pickup truck with a GM-claimed 40% increase in city fuel economy and 25% increase in overall fuel economy. Supposedly the new electric towing sled from the General will even be able to stay in electric-only mode up to 30 MPH for almost three miles (although some engineers claim this number is actually only 1.5 miles). Also we're kinda wishing the General hadn't tossed a big, silly "Hybrid" sticker on the side of the truck. Maybe they'll fix that when they reveal the "Professional Grade" model for the Detroit Auto Show. Full press release after the jump. galleryPost('2009SilveradoHybrid', 8, '2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid'); 2009...
