  • Camaro nut reports from inside second focus group

Filed under: Coupes , Chevrolet , GM , Driving With the 2010 Camaro just a couple months from being unveiled in production trim, GM is conducting focus groups with fanatics that it aims to please. Forum poster OctaneZ28 from 5thGen was on-site at the General's Milford Proving Grounds recently for the second such focus group and is now telling the world as much as he can about the soon-to-be-released bow-tie pony car. So far he's as giddy as a school boy. Since OctaneZ28 is a true die-hard Camaro fan, it's hard to consider his opinions objective, but he's posted some things from the focus group that we find interesting. First off, he mentions driving both the V6 and V8 models, and he calls the 3.6L version a real sleeper. Does that mean the base engine could be direct-inject version with more horsepower? OctaneZ28 also mentions the production convertible, which is said to keep the form of the coupe and is the most researched drop-top in the history of GM. That's weighty...
  • In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 Pontiac Vibe

Filed under: Car Buying , Hatchbacks , GM , Pontiac , Driving Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe When the original Pontiac Vibe hit dealer showrooms for the 2003 model year, it was a different kind of General Motors vehicle in just about every way. Sure, it wore a Pontiac badge and had that horrible plastic cladding hanging off its sides, but the vehicle's basic shape was unlike anything else in the General's lineup. There was a very good reason for this, as the Vibe is produced by GM's joint venture with Toyota called NUMMI , or the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. This JV currently produces the Vibe, Corolla and Tacoma pickup for both automakers, and the new Vibe is basically the same vehicle as the 2009 Toyota Matrix with a different skin and interior. For 2009, the Vibe loses all that plastic armor but keeps its Toyota ties, receiving the recently updated Corolla underpinnings and powertrains. Will the Vibe's many changes make the little Pontiac...
  • In the Autoblog Garage: 2008 Saturn Astra XR

Filed under: Car Buying , Garage , Hatchbacks , GM , Saturn , Driving Click above for high-res gallery of the 2008 Saturn Astra Enthusiasts here in the States have long wondered why they couldn't buy Ford and GM small cars from Europe, and at least part of the answer has been that Americans don't want to pay big bucks for premium small cars. Spiking gasoline prices have quelled that argument, and fuel economy is now towards the top of shoppers' lists when looking for a new car or truck. While Ford is still more than a year away from bringing over the Euro Focus and Fiesta, GM has made the cross-Atlantic jump by importing the Opel Astra to our shores. The Astra is a hot-selling hatch in Europe with high-end amenities and very good fuel economy, and the model is shipping to the U.S. differentiated from its Euro twin by some Saturn logos and little else. We were itching to get our hands on an Astra to see if it were as good as advertised, and our tester came equipped with everything...
  • VIDEO: Cadillac CTS-V promo film

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Cadillac , GM , Driving Click above to view video The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V appears to have the power and performance to take on the best that Germany has to offer, and GM's marketing team is just itching for the chance to brag about it. Following the jump is a two minute long tribute to the most powerful production Cadillac ever built. If we're not mistaken, this is the same video that was shown right before the car was driven onstage at the Detroit Auto Show last month. Built on a bass-heavy sound track, the CTS-V intro video is a series of close-ups followed by power slides and quick track cuts, with graphic after graphic boasting about the many virtues of Caddy's 550-hp sedan. Considering the total package, we'd brag too. Thanks for the tip, Zeyad!
