Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Sedans/Saloons , Hyundai click above for a high-res gallery of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata. Hyundai recognizes that competition in the mid-size sedan segment is always heating up, so the little automaker that could is bringing a refreshed Sonata to Chicago, sporting a slightly new look, more interior amenities and new powertrains. The 2009 Hyundai Sonata debuts with a choice of two revised mills that sport more power and fuel economy to rival the sedan's more expensive rivals. The Theta 2.4-cylinder inline-four is now in its second generation and makes 175 horsepower and 169 lb.-ft. of torque with a new five-speed automatic to help carve up the revs. The 3.3-liter V6 gets a 15-hp bump and is now making 249 hp and 229 lb.-ft. of torque. Aside from the upgraded engines, Hyundai is also hyping the Sonata's handling and will be offering a sport-tuned suspension on the SE model. The exterior revisions are mild, with a new front bumper, grille, lights and...

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Hatchbacks , Hyundai Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring Our friends abroad know it as the Hyundai i30, but here in the States it shall be known as the Elantra Touring. It originally debuted in Geneva wearing i30 badges and last month it got its unceremonious North American unveiling at the Montreal International Auto Show . The Elantra Touring marks Hyundai's return to the compact five-door segment after it nixed the Elantra GT a few years back, and it comes equipped with all the kit you'd expect in a budget runabout. Power is provided by a 2.0-liter four equipped with either a four-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC or a five-speed manual with a B&M Racing sport shifter. A sports suspension and quicker steering rack supposedly make it an entertaining steer, and Electronic Stability Control, ABS and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution ensure things don't get out of hand. Inside, you can option things up with...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Sedans/Saloons , Hyundai click above for 34 high-res images of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis You can read everything there is to know about the 2009 Hyundai Genesis in the post we published late last night , but at the time we only had three images of the Korean automaker's new super sedan to show you. Hyundai released the rest of its images this morning, giving us a complete view of the car's design both inside and out, including shots of what appears to be an uplevel model that's decked out with all the trimmings (see above). We'll reiterate our concern that many may find the design of the Hyundai Genesis derivative and anonymous. In fact, the only place a Hyundai badge appears on the car is the rear trunk lid. Is that because the company believes a logo on the front grille might deter those who believe that Hyundai can't build a premium car? And as for its derivative elements, we mentioned the Lexus-like headlights and Infiniti-inspired...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Sedans/Saloons , Hyundai click above to view more high-res images of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Hyundai_gets_serious_2009_Genesis_sedan_w_avail_368hp_V8'; What you are looking at is the physical representation of Hyundai's will to succeed in the U.S., also known as the 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The Korean automaker's first attempt at a rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan will debut in Detroit next week and arrive on our shores later this year (we think) with a price tag that starts below $30,000. As is Hyundai's way, it will feature power, performance and amenities that belie its little price tag. First, the design. The Genesis sedan has clean lines and uncluttered surfaces that look detailed and, frankly, expensive. Yes, it's derivative. There's a bit of Lexus LS in the headlights, some Infiniti in the profile and rear... you get the idea and can add your own observations in the comments. It's a...
